 There are many fake Daumier works around and amongst them, drawings, prints and sketches which seem to be quite easy to pass off as legitimate.  Many Daumier re-prints are commonly presented as authentic Daumiers' and are a firm favourite of the unscrupulous art dealer, particularly when they bear all manner of believable inscriptions and notes.

 Todays modern printing techniques can be applied very effectively to assume the role of old Daumier etchings, which are really facsimiles based on his legitimate drawings and they are often passed off as authentic Daumier graphics of the period.

 As to specific Daumier fakes, there are many hand coloured imitations around too, which are really either just crayoned in, or watercoloured facsimiles. We've seen some direct pencil and ink copies too, which are made directly onto old paper which is easily obtained from antique books. But most are created by directly by copying from his early prints and now claim to be an 'original' study for his graphics.

 Many Daumier fakes are traded on the open market with worthless but flowery COA'S stating their authenticity, particularly from the USA territories, so be cautious.

 But the fakers do make some vital errors in their 'new' Daumier faux works... and I am not about to broadcast what they are to tip them off on this page.
