Impressionist and Modern Art Authentication & Attribution

Specialist Fine Art Consultants conducting investigations into the authenticity and legitimacy of international fine art.

The Freemanart Consultancy's vast international experience in processing in depth art authentication investigations and attribution research of Impressionist and Modern art for clients around the world now surpasses 42 years.

We are expert in undertaking professional academic and forensic investigations into the authenticity or otherwise of works of art. This has included the great majority of the French and European Impressionists and exponents of; post-impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, abstract, German Expressionism and social realism. The French, Dutch, Italian, Russian, Mexican, Austrian, Belgian and American Schools.

As such, we are a unique team specialising in international fine art authentication assignments which have fallen into clearly defined responsibilities, client services and categories:

  • Authentication: Investigations with a view to establishing an internationally accepted and fully recognised accreditation of a given work of art. Specifically those art works with a responsible provenance, a signature claim, firm belief and those being well evidenced, or holding an earlier qualification of legitimacy and those with none.
[Fully international, academic, archival and forensic applications & investigations.

  • Attribution: Identifying and confirming the identity of an anonymous artist, studio or workshop from which an unsigned and thus previously unqualified work of art originated. One not formerly known or positively identified before.

  • Confirmation: Conducting investigative research and undertaking a full investigation into confirming the provenance, lineage and history of ownership of a work of art.

  • Revision: Re-examining & investigating an erstwhile previously ascribed historical artist's attribution which is incorrect. One otherwise doubted, or has been formally challenged.

  • Scrutiny: Identifying deliberate fakes & forgeries and determining those which are studio or later student copies. Or those works of art having been previously misrepresented, thus given wrongful attributions.

  • Prosecution: Investigating alleged art fraud, fakes and forgery and assisting those prosecuting the fact. Be they legal, civil or criminal prosecutors.

The world knows and recognises only too well, the identities of the greatest artists amongst the Impressionist movement, the Expressionists and other Modern art impresarios of both the two dimensional and three dimensional genres.

But the ever growing list of artists who are lesser mortals is extensive. If not vast, in a world wide art collector market that values their works of art in the hundreds and hundreds of thousands and above the millions of dollars too.

The extensive list that follows below are just some of the names of which questions of authenticity and legitimacy have been asked, some more regularly than others and questions asked justifiably so, in a world where art fraud and forgery at all levels, is rife.

Before you begin any art authentication investigation:

* Before entering into a full investigation of the legitimacy of a work of art, be it academic, forensic or as with most cases, both, it is essential to know if the project is viable to invest in.

Much as you would need to know if you were taking a legal case to court. Logically, if it is not, you should not attempt it, as the risk of failure is far too high.

So we always prefer to make a preliminary and what we believe is a vital professional pre authentication assessment for clients first. This is based upon the images you supply, the full details and the work of art's history.

This is a logical & cost effective professional assessment and advisory for which there is a modest set fee.

Please see our FAQ's which explains the process in detail.
