 The French romantic Rococo painter, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, was principally known best for his sensual paintings of the French aristocracy, usually set in their pursuit of pleasure and sensual self-indulgence.

 As an artist, Fragonard was a specialist in creating landscapes made in dreams, but also for painting fine portraits.

He created and began a new style and set the fashion in its time that would be widely emulated by those around him and works, wrongly attributed to the man, clearly must exist today.

 You would not expect Fragonard as an artist to be actually faked these days, but he was back in his own time and certainly has been in modern times. You only have to read recent reports about dozens of so called 'legitimate' Fragonard drawings being labelled as forgeries and other major works of art being withdrawn from major auctions, believed or suspected now to be fakes, to understand the scale of the problem.
One recently reported case included the rather rash attempt to sell a Fragonard fake to a middle eastern billionaire.

Fine Art Authentication

Authentication:  Investigating, with a view to establishing a fully, internationally accepted, well proven and correctly underpinned certification of a work of art.

 Attribution:  Identifying and confirming the previously anonymous artist, studio or workshop from which a work of art likely first originated. One which may not have been previously known or formerly identified beforehand.

 Revision:  Re examining and investigating an erstwhile ascribed historical artist attribution which is possibly incorrect, or one that has been formally challenged.

 Confirmation:  Conducting the archival research required in investigating and confirming the provenance, lineage and prior history of ownership of a work of art internationally.

 Scrutiny:  Identifying premeditated fakes and forgeries, determining those which may be studio or later student copies, or previously misrepresented or wrongful attributions.

 Prosecution:  Investigating an alleged art fraud and forgery and assisting and advising those litigating or prosecuting the fact.

 Attention:  Conducting all fine art related due diligence and duty of care enquiries, prepurchase or sale related studies and advising in matters of consolidating safe future family distribution.

    Before you begin any authenticity, legitimacy, or artist attribution investigation, it is wise to have an impartial preliminary assessment of the viability of the project conducted first. One made to independently and rationally balance any negative issues there may be against the positive. You should treat this study as a safety net.

 We will be happy to professionally undertake this for you, based upon good quality images that you supply and all the known facts regarding its acquisition, the history and provenance of the work of art as is known to you.
