  Sir Arthur Ernest Streeton was an Australian landscape painter and leading member of the Heidelberg School of Australian Impressionism.

Easily one of the most accomplished, influential and best loved Australian artists of his time, he is regarded by many as to have been responsible for many of the great masterpieces of Australian painting, each effortlessly created and quite beautiful.

  As a result, his paintings are extensively sought after by both private collectors and art galleries throughout Australia and the world.

 The Australian landscape naturally featuring strongly in both his oils and watercolours. Though there are many still lifes works including, florals, the interiors of rooms he frequented, portraits and also figurative studies, city views and river subjects. They all appear in his oeuvres.

 Streeton extensively visited foreign parts during his life, including Italy, Egypt, Britain and France, largely painting his observations in the same individual yet impressionistic manner and it is from these sources that many more recent Streeton discoveries come from. Both legitimate and some I am afraid quite false. Like so many of his contemporaries, Sir Arthur Streeton's works, both his paintings, sketches and drawings, have been copied, his style emulated and inevitably he was extensively faked. A common ploy, a signature forged and applied to anonymous artists work of a similar type from the 1970's onwards, always with a view to convincing potential buyers they were legitimate Streeton works.

 In recent years, an ever growing number of works of art including paintings bearing the name Sir Arthur Ernest Streeton have been consigned for sale in auctions around the world and as the values of his works of art consistently climb, there is an greater need for the confirmation of legitimacy. Works of art that do surface will require a comprehensive and thorough investigation of their backgrounds and provenance and similar scrutiny given to confirm that any previously given attribution is correct. So too that any description itself of a work of art seemingly by Sir Arthur Streeton being offered for sale can truly be relied upon.
