Investigating the Authenticity of Paintings Drawings and Prints believed to be by

Andy Warhol

1928–1987

  An influential and controversial American artist, Andy Warhol was born and raised in Pittsburgh. Initially pursuing a tremendously successful career as a commercial illustrator in New York, Warhol exhibited his work in several galleries in the late 1950's and began to receive acclaim and recognition.

 Between 1945 and 1949 Warhol studied at the Carnegie Institute of Technology and in 1949, he moved to New York and changed his name from Warhola to Warhol, worked as a commercial artist for magazines and also designed advertising and window displays.

 Early in the 1960's, Warhol began to experiment with reproductions based on well known American advertisements, including newspaper headlines and other mass-produced images from American popular culture. In 1967, Warhol established a print-publishing business called Factory Additions, through which he published a series of screenprint portfolios on his signature subjects. Marilyn Monroe was the first one.  Campbell's soup tins we all associate with Warhols art as well as Coca Cola bottles. Then in 1962, he began a series of portraits of other subjects which were given the now familiar Warhol treatment and included both Jackie Kennedy and Elvis Presley. The same year he took part in the New Realists exhibition in New York, which was the first important survey of Pop Art, a culture which he invented.

Warhol famously said:

"How can you say one style is better than another? You ought to be able to be an Abstract Expressionist next week, or a Pop artist, or a realist, without feeling you've given up something. I think that would be so great, to be able to change styles and I think that's what's going to happen, that's going to be the whole new scene."

And it was a scene he would certainly create.

 It is rare to see illegitimate, fully fledged Warhol  or Warhol-esque works appear today on the art market. Andy Warhol's paintings are extremely well recorded, however the famous name appears on illegitimate drawings, sketches and works of type, usually painted by anonymous artists. There are also countless numbers of illegitimate prints too of the type discussed above.

 Prosecution:  Investigating alleged art fraud and forgery and assisting and advising those who are , or may be considering litigating or prosecuting the fact. This includes legal professionals and private clients.

 Attention:  Conducting all fine art related due diligence and duty of care inquiries. Including safe prepurchase or sale related audits and assisting clients in consolidating a well balanced future family distribution.

 Appraisal: Valuations, quality and condition assessments and reports.
