• Revision: Re-examining and investigating an erstwhile, previously ascribed historical artist's attribution which is incorrect. One otherwise doubted, or one that has been formally challenged.

• Scrutiny:  Identifying deliberate fakes and forgeries and determining those which may be studio or later student copies, formerly misrepresented, or wrongful attributions.

• Prosecution: Investigating any alleged art fraud and forgery issue and assisting and

The Art of Arizona:

 Arizona's rich artistic legacy predates its Statehood and both Mexican and Spanish rule.

Beginning in history with her prehistoric native populations of the Anastasi and Hohokum in the form of their petroglyph and pictographs which we know better as rock art. These are evocative paintings recording plants, strange human forms, animals of course, as well as abstract and geometric patterns and shapes.

 Her latter day artists first appeared here as recorders and chroniclers, like John Mix Stanley from the US Army Topographical Engineers. Then came illustrators and reporter artists, none perhaps better known than Frederic Remington.

Eventually these early Arizona artists assumed the status as creators of fine art. Thus the more modern tradition of drawing and painting in Arizona was born.

John Mix Stanley - The Gila River

  Traditional native crafts and art, the natural heritage of her first residents, has been kept alive over the centuries with new generations of native artists working in all forms and medium. Painting, sculpture, pottery, craft work, bead work, basket wear, weaving and textiles. There is Sedona verde valley art, Surrealism, Dadaism, Impressionism and Plein Air, all a part of Arizonas artistic past.
All are represented, with its wild landscape inspiring many artists who were born here or drawn here to Arizona at some time.

 In fact, few states can claim to have the diversity in art culture as Arizona, as her artists include; Maxfield Parrish, Jackson Pollock and David Hockney. Add to that an ever growing list of greats who were either born here or were invevitably drawn here, included;

 The authenticity of a work of art must be addressed, ultimately judged and pronounced upon as authentic or otherwise, in the final analysis, only by those individuals or bodies that are legally empowered and fully recognized internationally as the absolute authority on the artist to do so. No other form of approval or certification, originating from any other source, is accepted as being either absolute or reliable.

Be very cautious if you are told, or sold it differently.

The Art Authentication Process - Before you begin

 STEP ONE; THE PRELIMINARY ASSESMENT OF VIABILITY STUDY.

  Before entering into a full investigation of authenticity or legitimacy, it is essential to know if the project is viable enough for you to justify that pursuit. Logically, if it is not, you should not attempt it.

 So before you do start, we prefer to conduct a preliminary professional pre-authentication assessment for clients first.   A well reasoned, independent study and your safety net. One based upon your images and the known details of its acquisition and history.

In our experience it is a vitally important study and one that allows for a balanced and rational measure of the risk factors and requirements that may lie ahead.
