Confirming the Authenticity & Attributions of Works of Art believed to be by:
Абра́м Ефи́мович Архи́пов Russian Realist Artist (B Yegorovo, Ryazan province, 15 Aug 1862; D Moscow, 25 Sept 1930)
Plein air painter of landscapes along the Volga River using muted colours, but a man who found a rich and diverse source of inspiration in the Russian countryside and its peasantry. In the main, he painted peasants at work, often wearing bright national costumes but he loved the light effects of melting snow, the local church and its priest and Russian villages of the far north and the White Sea. Without question, his highly sought after works of art, fetch exceptionally high prices at auction today and some considerably outstrip their auction estimates. But as with all artists that achieve high monetary values, this is clearly open to descriptor errors, historically incorrect attributions and sometimes abuse, by incorrect attributions being made today. Either honestly but mistakenly made, or deliberately devised to deceive. But as I have said, there is also straightforward faking to contend with, but most often undertaken by the addition of a forged signature or monogram to an otherwise similar work of type and of age, but one that was created by an anonymous follower of the artist. It is important as well as useful to understand fully the generally observed and accepted semantics used in auction descriptions, (set out further down this page) This defines exactly what the expert view of the work offered is, and it also can drastically alter the financial outcome. *** As a specialist fine art consultancy conducting art authenticity and attribution investigations internationally, we have been confidentially serving both private individuals and corporate clients. * ABOUT A WORK OF ARTS DESCRIPTOR AND ITS TERMINOLOGY * As if in this case as if they were defining the works of the artist;
Abram Efimovich Arkhipov (1862-1930) Russian
*It is very important to clearly understand the general auction terms that are widely used in a published descriptor and to be cautious of works that may just be created in the 'manner of' the artist, or those which could be variants of the artists works of art that 'bear an applied signature' or monogram.
