• Attribution: Identifying and confirming an anonymous artist, studio or workshop from which a work of art may most likely have first originated. Usually an attribution which may not have been previously known of, or formerly identified.

• Confirmation: Conducting the archival research required in investigating and confirming the provenance, prior history and previous line of ownership of a work of art.
  

• Revision: Re-examining and investigating an erstwhile, previously ascribed historical artist's attribution which is incorrect. One otherwise doubted, or one that has been formally challenged.

• Scrutiny:  Identifying deliberate fakes and forgeries and determining those which may be studio or later student copies, formerly misrepresented, or wrongful attributions.

• Prosecution: Investigating any alleged art fraud and forgery issue and assisting and
  advising those prosecuting the fact. Be that criminally or legally.

A brief history of Wisconsin art.

   It's highly likely that French explorers first sketched Wisconsin in their notebooks during the 17th and 18th century, but the earliest art known to be produced in the Wisconsin region was created by Americans from the East Coast.
  These artists came for a few years shortly after the British lost control of the Wisconsin territory. So early itinerant 'Yankee' artists were followed by other artists that were trained in London with the majority of them being Scottish. In turn, those artists were followed by a much larger and more influential group of immigrant artists from the German speaking countries of Europe.

  During the second half of the 19th century, that mix of people became increasingly dominated by German-speaking people who would profoundly affect Wisconsin art for decades to come.

Art of all kinds and in all forms can be found in Wisconsin, from its early folk art roots, to fine landscapes, portraits, still lifes.

The Art Authentication Process  -  Before you begin

  Before entering into a full investigation of authenticity or legitimacy, it is essential to know if the project is viable enough for you to justify that pursuit. Logically, if it is not, you should not attempt it.

 So before you start, we prefer to conduct a preliminary professional pre-authentication assessment for clients first.  

This is a well reasoned, independent study, based upon your images and the known details of its acquisition and history.

In our experience, it is a vitally important study that allows for a balanced and rational measure of the risks, facts and requirements that may lie ahead.  A logical and cost effective professional assessment and advisory for which there is naturally a modest set fee.
